I am a proud mother, a wife to the love of my life for 26 years, WRAL reporter Cullen Browder, and an Associate Professor of English at Wake Technical Community College in NC. I was diagnosed with non-cancerous Lobular Carcinoma In Situ (LCIS) in 2014 followed by two more benign lumpectomies in 2016 and in 2017. In 2020 a routine mammogram detected Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, Triple Positive (Progesterone, Estrogen, and HER2+) in one breast. Although my cancer was stage 2, it was aggressive (tumor grade 3). As a result, I had a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, a year of Herceptin infusions, radiation, reconstruction, and a year of Nerlynx, targeted immunotherapy. I am grateful for the love and support of family and friends throughout my diagnosis and hope that by sharing my journey someone else may benefit from my experience. #mammogramssavelives #cancersurvivor
