I am a proud mother, a wife to the love of my life for 25 years, WRAL reporter Cullen Browder, and an Associate Professor of English at Wake Technical Community College in NC. I was diagnosed with non-cancerous Lobular Carcinoma In Situ (LCIS) in 2014 followed by two more benign lumpectomies in 2016 and in 2017. In 2020 a routine mammogram discovered Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (Triple Positive) in one breast, leading me to undergo a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation, and finally reconstruction. I am grateful for the love and support of family and friends throughout my diagnosis and hope that by sharing my journey someone else may benefit from my experience.
